Starting next Tuesday, a new weekly feature article is coming to “Silver Screen Studies.”
In what I’ll be calling “Legacy Tuesday”, we’ll be taking a character from the American Film Institutes Top 100 Movie Heroes and Villains, and discussing the impact they had on film and their cultural relevance today. In addition to the AFI, we’ll also be taking iconic characters that got their start on the silver screen such as Mickey Mouse and give them the reverence they deserve.
Who is the greatest movie hero? Who is the greatest villain? What exactly was the “Disney Renaissance”? And just how did a shark scared an entire generation of people out of the water in 1976?
All will be answered in “Legacy Tuesday.”
Who will be the first legend discussed? The actor who played this character won the academy award in 1963 for Best Actor.
